Nonfiction Unit

Objective: The students will be able to compose an essay exploring the themes in our nonfiction texts while using correct M.U.G (mechanics, usage, grammar).
Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.9-10.2
Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.9-10.1
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
Instructions: Using any device, log on to Google (Email: first.last@stu.knox.kyschools.us, Password: LCMHS#### —- your school lunch code). Access our Google Classroom and find the most recent assignment, NTI Day 3. Open the document and you will find the following instructions: Choose one of the following prompts and answer it with a 1 page essay, taking care to use impeccable grammar, mechanics, and usage. When you’ve finished, submit the document to our Google Classroom by clicking “turn in”.

1. Why do people write nonfiction? Cite at least two of our nonfiction texts to support your answer.
2. How does an author’s purpose and audience influence decisions made while writing? Cite at least two of our nonfiction texts to support your answer.
